I had been worried about going and finding out the baby was dead or something terrible like that that people often find out at this ultrasound, so to reassure myself a little bit I listened to the heartbeat with my home doppler this morning before leaving. Heart was beating, I was content. :)
Baby was measuring right on track at 12w0d, with a heartbeat of 153. Part of me believes that old wives tale of slower heartbeats indicating boys, because Elijah's HB followed the same trends as this little one, but I guess we'll have to wait and see!
I was sneaky and read the screen afterwards and saw the NT measurement. I know it gets combined with the bloodwork results for a full assessment, but for now I'm happy knowing the the fold only measured 0.85mm. Ahhh, peace of mind!
Even better was the tech giving me a photo afterwards which I had all but forgotten to ask for. Here's what we walked away with:
I think the best part of the day, though, was watching the baby move around on-screen. I realized today that I only ever saw snapshots of Elijah, and it was amazing, watching this little teeny being wave its arms, roll over, float around, and curl into a ball. There is a real, live, little person inside of me, and that fact fills me with so much awe and wonder, it's hard to put it into words.
Anyway, I've got to run. My little boy has been very patient with me while I type away on here, but he needs some lovin'.
